January 19 Georgia passed the Secession Ordinance
April 12 Shelling of Fort Sumter, South Carolina
July 8 13th Georgia mustered into Confederate service.
July 18 Capt. William McLoed offers services of Ben Hill Guards (later Co. C, 38th Georgia) in letter to Gen. Henry C. Wayne, commander, George State Troops.
November 13 Bartow Guards (Stewart County) with Pvt. C. A. Evans joins Phillip's Regiment of Lawton's Brigade (later Company E of 31st GA) at Savannah, GA.
November 19 Clement A. Evans commissioned as Major of the 31st GA
