Reviews of Corvus Belli

Promo Shots

Ed Allen's scans of Celt/Gaul sample figures

Here are promo shots of new Corvus Belli miniatures from Fernando Liste including Roman infantry command, the much anticipated Roman cheiroballista in cart, Celts in victory and defeat, and an ox cart with baggage and slaves.

Tony Stapells on Celts/Gauls

A very generous gentleman by the name of Fernando Liste sent me some sample castings from his soon-to-be launched miniature company, Corvus Belli which simply forced me into an update. I've very glad he did. They are absolutely incredible! Very well sculpted with great detail and Celtic flavour. They are nicely sized figures that will mix quite well with most other manufacturers' castings. My personal favourite is the old veteran crouching down on his heels, taking a load off his aching knees (I know how he feels!). Until he has a website, you can reach Senor Liste at arverno@hotmail.com for orders, a catalog or perhaps even free samples if you ask nicely enough. Here are the scans of the Celts I was sent. I am told that more horses, a British chariot and an entire range of opposing Romans are in the works. I've seen the Roman Command Group; they look very sharp indeed.

Chris Brantley on Celts/Gauls and Romans

Received a package in the mail from Ferdando Liste and his associates at Corvus Belli, a new Spanish miniatures company that is gearing up to enter the historical market starting with an extensive range of 15mm Celts/Gauls. You've seen some samples (pic A) (pic B) already. The new samples include infantry command, warriors with spear, adolescent skirmishers, slingers, British light horse, and cavalry command. When I have a chance, I'll give you a full review. In the meantime, let me just say these are outstanding figures; with active poses, loaded with detail, and lots of variety. They are very cleanly cast (the only complaint being a small casting nub on the bottom of the base which can be easily filed). Figures are well-proportioned and scale true 15mm from the top of the base to eye level, or around 16-18mm from basetop to top of headgear depending on the pose and figure; they should mix well with others in the market.

New releases are out from Corvus Belli and I wanted to take a moment to offer special praise to Fernando Liste for what I consider to be an innovation of special interest to DBX gamers. Pictured here are his Eastern (Early Imperial) Roman Eastern Archers. Note the two types of poses, one suitable for formed units of archers and one representing more active skirmishing poses. This not only provides more variety in posing, but is specially designed to help DBX gamers differentiate the figures on bow and psiloi elements. Also new from Corvus Belli, Roman Cavalry and Command, Western Roman Archers, Queen Boudicca and celtic/gallic peasants.

Here's a picture of Corvus Belli's Early Imperial Roman command pack. The picture pretty much speaks for itself in terms of product quality. It is amazing how much detail Fernando Liste is able to cram into his miniatures. They are a consistent 15mm in heighth from top of base (bottom of foot) to eye level (17-18mm to top of head). My samples were well cast with minimal flash, except for a nub at the release point under the base, which is relatively easy to clip and/or file off. The poses are interesting, and include two officers (one pointing and one with hat in hand), an aquilifer with eagle standard, a horn-blower, a secretary? (holding a book with hand extended) and a shield-bearer. I also received samples of assorted Corvus Belli Roman legionaries, which are the same scale, but which seem slightly bigger (but not necessarily taller) than my Essex legionaries.

Also enjoy these new promo shots of Corvus Belli's Baggage Sheep, which contrary to rumor, do not come flocked.
