Sub-Roman British Hill Fort

Phil of Pityak Studios:
Here's my first BUA, a walled stockade for my 20mm Britons. The scale is a bit
screwy as originally it was just going to be a symbolic representation, with the
wall itself and a few underscale buildings, but then I found the 20mm farm
animals and had to have them, and then had to have some people too! The
whole thing is about 240mm in diameter, and the slightly distorted gate opening
is 60mm wide so an element can stand there. One thing I would definitely change
if I could be bothered would be to square off this front section slightly
(figures are 20mm, animals are model railway 1:72, umm, HO?).

The fence is made from wooden skewers chopped up. The round huts
are two different sized little plastic tubs that originally had cut-off wheels
and sanding disks in them, with cocktails sticks glued on. The roofs are
plasticene covered in PVA. The square huts are balsa, the roofs card with some
sort of bristles glued to them (they were a pain to do - the bristles would peal
off every time I went near them with a brush). The hall in the centre is balsa
again, covered in strips of card for the planking effect. The little pig hut is
just solid balsa with a static grass turf roof. All the buildings are different
as originally they were going to be masters, but I got too impatient and
couldn't wait to mold them so just plowed ahead and built my little farmyard
using the masters.
