DBA Built-Up Areas
Circular Keep

Not entirely happy with my first effort, I eventually tried my hand at scatch-building this circular keep. The base is cardboard, built up in three successively smaller layers to create the impression of a hill. The hill is plastered with wall compound, painted brown, then flocked with Woodland Scenics ballast and bits of white gravel on the slopes and Woodland Scenics green flock on the flat areas. The tower itself is cut from a heavy cardboard shipping tube liberated from the office waste bin (and which took a hacksaw to cut through). After cutting the desired length from the tube, I glued supports inside about a half inch from the top and then glued down a flat roof made of thick card, adding a trap door for detail. The doors and windows are cut to shape from heavy card and glued in place. The roof of the tower is large enough to accomodate two regular elements of 15mm foot or a piece of artillery.
