Early Imperal Roman Cheiroballista

By Doug Hamm. The cheiroballista represents an advance in Roman technology over the standard "scorpio" ballista. A metal frame allowed a wider arm spread for greater distance. Cylinders encasing the springs protected them from the elements. They were often mounted in mule carts for mobility on the battlefield.
