As the last Roman Legions withdrew from Britain in 407 AD, Germanic marauders fell upon the defenseless Britons. Internal conflicts between both the invaders and defenders lead to shifting allegiances and betrayal. From the north and west, savages and Gaelic pirates ravaged the coasts and borderlands as Britain was engulfed into the Dark Ages. By 480 AD, several strong kingdoms had immerged from the horror, each struggling for dominance over their neighbors.
