Dictionary of Ancient & Medieval Warfare by Matthew Bennett (Stackpole, September 2001). Mini-review by Chris Milne (a.k.a. Greedo): "The main reason I picked this up is because reading through the army lists of DBA, and reading postings on the Forum, I quite often had no idea what people were talking about; such as the Sassanids, not a clue who they were. Various battles, definitions of weapons or particular civilizations, tactics, generals etc. This dictionary explains all of them!"
War and Society in Ancient Mesoamerica by Ross Hassig (University of California, Dec. 1992). Mini-review by Alan Saunders "This would appear to be THE book on the subject, covering a number of DBA lists (and some peoples who have yet to have one). It's a very 'wargames relevant' book, with some interesting bits throughout on how various armies could have been structured based on the weapons they used."
