LATER SWISS
(DBA IV/79)

Armies of the Fanatici > Eye Candy > DBA Resources > Fanaticus

Attached are pictures of my Late Swiss army, all Mirliton 15mm. It’s got enough pikes for a big battle force but needs more halberds. It also needs artillery – I’ve been using the guns from the Italian Condottiere. I may get some mounted crossbows, but don’t see a need for knights/gendarmes. Since the Swiss were led by a committee of captains, there is no special general stand for this army. I just designate on of the standard-bearing stands, usually the one with the Swiss national colors. This force is also slated to do Italian Wars with DBA period variants and/or Maximilian. The army has already had a run of glorious victories in a campaign, followed by ignominious defeat.

Pikes (4Pk)

Halberdiers (4Bd)

The halberds have some shields because they
came in the pack and I couldn’t resist.

Handgonners (2Ps)

Medieval Foot Knights

Not part of the Swiss army but painted around the same time are Rank & File
dismounted knights. I wanted enough so we could do all manner of late
medieval games, War of the Roses, etc. Some complain they are not accurate, others of the wasp waists.  If they look like the right century I’m happy – I get more bent out of shape about uniforms in the horse-and-musket period – and they painted up easily. The shields include a variety of winged things and rampant critters. They look best at about two feet. There are also some paper shield devices from Mirliton, which don’t look bad in these pictures.  On the table I prefer my own devices. They are less precise but more colorful. There is also one bastard in the front rank. The pen-drawn bastard symbol doesn’t come off well in the photo, looks better on the table.
