This is an "expansion backwards" from my
Early Imperial Romans - I
don't particularly like painting horses, so this lets me reuse the
cavalry and light horse from that army to help build a new one.
The new elements include a general, the legion (blades), and
Cenomani auxilia and psiloi. Not having much info on who I could
best match to the figures, I spent a lot of time on Google before I
identified the Cenomani as a suitable match. Located in what is
presently northern Italy/Switzerland, the Cenomani were a branch of
the Celtic Aulerci tribe that drove out the Estruscans. They
assisted the Romans in the Gallic War and against Hannibal, but
joined in the revolt of the Gauls under Hamilcar. They were defeated
by Gaius Cornelius in 197 BC.
