Andrew McLaren's
EARLY AND LATER HEBREWS
(DBA I/27 & I/34ab)

Armies of the Fanatici > Eye Candy > DBA Resources > Fanaticus

The Hebrews are one of the most extensive conversion exercises I have undertaken. They all come from Atlantic Trojans, except a couple of later additions. Most of the figures began life as the "dying with arrow" casualty figure from Atlantic Trojans. These were straightened with the aid of a candle, arm positions were changed with hot water, greaves trimmed off, beards, shields and spears added, tunics lengthened... I got a great deal of satisfaction by making use of so many otherwise useless figures!

Early Hebrew General (4Ax/Gen)

I use the 4Ax base as a foot general option in I/27 because it looks more like a leader and guards than a 3Ax.

Might Men of Valor (3Wb)

The Atlantic axe-wielders look like mighty men, being a little too large. I see them as Joshua's shock troops with the best of the war-gear, so left them their greaves.

Warriors of the Tribes (3Ax)

I researched ancient Hebrew letters and put the first letter of each tribe's name on the shields, and gave each tribe or sub-tribe a fairly uniform look.  [Close-Up]

Shields from the Side

Slingers and Archers (2Ps)

Mainly slingers with a stand of (Benjamite?) archers

Mercenaries (4Sp)

I certainly didn't want to use "Philistines" so opted for Atlantic axemen converted with spears and a simple round shield.

Later Hebrew General (LCh/Gen)

Once the Hebrews succeeded in taking the coastal lowlands they adopted the same chariots as the various other Canaan powers. Under the Davidic monarchs chariots became a very strong arm. This is Atlantic Egyptian with the same treatment for the team I gave my "Hyksos" army; an Egyptians driver and Trojans general.

Chariotry (LCh)

These later Hebrew additions are pure Caesar Mitanni. It tickles me to use them as Hebrew. Technically I could field them as the HCh requirement for the I/34(c) option but these are very definitely bronze technology, not really appropriate for the later Neo-Assyrian to Ltr Sargonid period.
