CELTIC NIGHTMARE
|
| 1x 3Bd or LCh (Gen) | Celtic chieftain, mounted or dismounted, with his comitatus |
| 1x HCh | Celtic Hero and his followers (e.g. Cu Chulainn and the Red Branch Knights of Ulster). |
| 3x 3Kn | The Wild Hunt, comprised of huge, loathsome beings riding on black horses and goats, followed by horrible, wide-eyed hounds (yeth or hell hounds). Also known as Woden's Hunt or L'Armee Furieuse. The leader can be depicted as the Wild Huntsman, Woden, a demon King Arthur, Le Grand Vaneur, the lost King Herle (Herlewin) or the Devil. |
| 4x 3Wb | Gaesatae, fantical nude warriors with woad tattoes and limed hair. |
| 1x 2Ps | Adolescent skirmishers intent on proving their valor. |
| 1x 7Hd | Sacrificing druids and screaming women. | 1x 3Wb or 2Ps | Mystical beasts (with special abilities). Warband represent Bodachs (a.k.a. Bugbears), demonic spirits in the guise of a bear, boar or other wild beast who eats human flesh (with a preference for the flesh of naughty children). Unlike regular warband, Bodachs are terrifying to horses and therefore fight at +4 versus Mounted. Psiloi represent Will o' the Wisps (a.k.a. Jack o' Lanterns) who lure the unwary to disaster in marshes, bogs or ditches. To simulate this ability, the Will o' the Wisp and any foe in close combat are always considered to be in Bad Going regardless of the surrounding terrain. To offset their special powers, mystical beasts may not move in a group with any other element. |
The Celtic Nightmare can face any foe of the following armies: II/11 Gallic (II/11), Ancient British (II/53), Scots-Irish (II/54) or Caledonians (II/60).
A Druidic henge (e.g. Stonehenge) or grove makes an appropriate camp or BUA. Druids sacrificing victims is another good theme camp. A hill fort (oppidium) is also appropriate for use as a BUA, whereas an ox-cart wagon lager will serve as a suitable camp.
Forthcoming.
